Do Not Forget the Woods

To you, at the edge of the woods,

Welcome to the Storm Post Office. 1990: a faded cream kraft envelope, its title in squashed, condensed capitals from an eighties horror-film poster; beneath it a dark green fairytale engraving in which a deer stands among tree shadows. A lavender video tracking label runs along one edge, and someone has underlined the title in red pen, meaning: do not forget. The woods are drawn dense, but the title stays perfectly readable.

A thinker who spent long hours walking among trees wrote this line: “In the woods, we return to reason and faith.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature (1836)

We would like to offer that here, too. We send letters slowly and tell stories with care; we will not forget the woods, and we will not push you in. Stand at the edge for a while. That is enough.

The woods stay, and so do letters
