To a New World

To you, with your luggage,

Welcome to the Storm Post Office. This is a letter of transition, and it carries no date, because on the road one does not look at the calendar. On airy cream travel-mail paper, the traveler's large italic calligraphy is at once handsome and relaxed; a turquoise coastal horizon is etched beneath it, pale lavender route lines mark where one might go, a peach baggage strip is pasted to one side, and a small forwarding label bears an institution's stamp. Take a breath. The sky is wide.

Tennyson wrote for an old voyager about to set out again: "Come, my friends, / 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world." — Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Ulysses (1842)

There is no need to hurry to arrive, or to know in advance where you are going. Set your bags down for a moment and write a letter; we will see to the forwarding.

May the sky stay wide,

Storm Post Office

P.S. The back of the peach baggage strip is blank. It is saved for your destination.
