The Shape of Truth
To you, stepping onto the white shore,
Welcome to the Storm Post Office. This letter is posted from an island by the sea. Beyond the sea the calendar has reached 1914, while the island keeps a count and a classical taste of its own: the envelope is warm limestone-textured rag paper, set with upright Roman inscription capitals, fine mathematical notes in the margins, ultramarine construction circles crossing one another, and beside them a single column and a stretch of white coast.
Galileo spoke of the book of the universe that always lies open before our eyes: "It is written in the language of mathematics, and its letters are triangles, circles and other geometric figures." — Galileo Galilei, Il Saggiatore (1623)
Perhaps the shape of truth is hidden in those crossing circles. Look slowly; draw slowly. When you write, send us your diagram too.
Yours, compass in hand,
Storm Post Office
