A Star in the Archive

To you, leafing through the files,

Welcome to the Storm Post Office. This letter has been taken out of the archive: a navy envelope printed with a dense engraved star atlas, a large copperplate title written with real poetry, cream index tabs set between pale silver coordinate arcs, and a small observation-slide window cut into the paper. Two tags record where it came from; the line for the year is left blank.

Kant wrote a sentence that belongs in any star chart: "Two things fill the mind with ever fresh and growing wonder and reverence, the oftener and longer we dwell on them: the starry sky above me and the moral law within me." — Immanuel Kant, Critique of Practical Reason (1788)

The stars here are not for fortune-telling. They are for remembering. Stop at any page and look through the little window a while. When you want to write, we will file it for you.

Respectfully, the cataloger,

Storm Post Office
