The Unfinished Case
To you, opening the file,
Welcome to the Storm Post Office. This one comes from Ushuaia, March 1991, in marbled oxblood paper tied shut with a black thread, like a dossier no one has closed. A ring of corridors is etched around the margins; a sage-green observation chart is pasted into one corner beneath a stamped case number; and the title sits in two lines, typewriter beside italic.
A novel that was never finished begins with this sentence: “Someone must have slandered Josef K., for one morning, without having done anything truly wrong, he was arrested.” — Franz Kafka, The Trial (1925)
That case has stayed open ever since. Ours is open too, but nobody is arrested here; you are simply received. There is no verdict, and no need to read in order. Begin on whichever page you like.
No verdict required
