A Door Left Open
To you, remembering a door,
Welcome to the Storm Post Office. This letter is posted from a memory: the corridor of the First Defense School, somewhere between 1985 and 1987. The envelope is gray-blue institutional paper, its ruled archive fields exact to the last line, yet loosened by one warm line of handwriting in brush script. A long corridor is engraved across it, and at the far end a single door stands open, full of golden light. Under the paper band, someone has tucked a child's folded note.
A book that children love has this sentence: "Alice opened the door and found that it led into a small passage, not much larger than a rat-hole: she knelt down and looked along the passage into the loveliest garden you ever saw." — Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865)
Institutions are always tidy, and yet someone always leaves a door ajar. We hope you will leave one inside yourself. We have not unfolded the note; if you want to read it, open it yourself.
The door is not locked,
Storm Post Office

P.S. The little pencil stars in the corner were added there quietly, by someone.
